Winter sea storms

22 February 2017

26 December 2016 will be remembered for the historical East storm that hit the Costa Brava. According to statistics, the area had not experienced such a strong storm for over 50 years.

Waves over 6 metre and winds almost reaching 100 km/h, as explained by Jordi Fernández, editor of the blog 'El tiempo en Palamós'. In Palamós, besides the sea storm, 30mm of rain were registered.

On 21st and 22nd January a new storm hit the area with 4 to 5 metre high waves. At two in the early morning, the buoy of Puertos del Estado located in Begur registered a 10,78 metres high wave.

The storm also affected the facilities of CN Costa Brava-Vela Palamós, but the fast action of the harbour team contributed to cause minimum incidences in our premises.
